George Lyle has
been a steady presence in Scotland's jazz scene for many years. He has
played accompanist and host to many visiting musicians as well as playing
in a number of regular local groups. His long term interest in playing
free improvised music began when he encountered Cecil Taylor's album
Unit Structures and Coltrane's Ascension as a young man. These along
with Albert Ayler's music grounded him in a life of free playing that
has only recently found a regular public outlet in the thriving Glasgow
improv scene.
As well as being
a member of the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and working with the BMacD5
George is currently playing regularly with Graeme Truslove and Tony
McLennan in the Dug Dog trio as well as various ad hoc improvising
groups.
